Modeling the PH&D

Like the rest of this site, the modeling pages are a work in progress. And are brand new (added 28 March 2024). This is a multi-part project – we started with digitizing the PH&D records at the end of 2021 and that work continues to this day. Once a substantial portion of the existing daily paperwork was completed, it became apparent that it would need to be analyzed. The paperwork contains information about all of the cars the railroad handled, not just the ones carrying its reporting marks. There were even several years in the 1970’s where there were no cars with PH&D reporting marks handled by the railroad.

Because this site was originally set up to be a comprehensive modeling guide, you will (eventually) find information about all of the cars handled by the PH&D (that we can find documentation of in the records available to us). In the modeling section, you will (eventually) find lists of commercially available models of PH&D rolling stock, rolling stock from other railroads that regularly visited the PH&D’s rails and other information important for accurately modeling the PH&D.

It is important to note that this section of the site will likely never be “complete” or “finished”. Model railroad manufacturing companies release new models on a regular basis. In the 10 years or so since the PH&D Railroad Historical Society published a list of commercially available PH&D equipment in their Marker Light publication, enough new PH&D models have been released (in multiple scales) to fill a couple additional pages if that list had been maintained since its release. That list and the releases since it was published will eventually be included in the pages of this site.

This site will be broken down by category, then by scale. Links to each category will be on this page, the various scales will be linked to the category pages. You can also use the drop down menus at the top of the site to quickly navigate to each category without visiting this page first.
